From our Guestbook
"What a fabulous find! This place has been perfect in every way: friendly family-like staff and guests! Great low-key activities and attitude that encouraged participation but with no stress. Succulent food three times a day (so delicious!!). We took our first kayak ride and canoe trip, all three of us- daughter, granddaughter, and I. Such beauty - the lake at our front door, the pines and birch, and most of all the haunting call of the loons. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome." --Priscilla Tedesco, California

All about us

Our History

The Cabins at China Lake was run as the Candlewood Lodge for forty-something years. It was a "happening" vacation spot, where families returned to year after year. Under new ownership and a new name, we have tried to keep much of what made Candlewood Lodge so successful, like sandman snack, an evening snack where guests and staff can gather together and get to know each other better. We've also retained "The Candlewood" as our restaurant name.

Many of Candlewood's prior guests have returned to The Cabins and we love to hear their stories. We are happy to be able to continue the traditions that made this place a favorite vacation spot. We also have many new guests who have found us under our new name. We love the potential of starting new traditions for them, too.

We, the owners

The Cabins at China Lake are owned and operated by the Bisbee, O'Donnell and Samoiloff families. And when we say "families," we mean families! We work here, our kids work here. And we all love spending time with our guests and getting to know them. We've met some really wonderful people during our past two years of ownership.

The Cabins staff

We've got cooks, dishwashers, wait staff, housekeeping staff, and activities staff. Most of our employees fill all those shoes at different times. The best thing about our staff is that you'll always find a smile on their faces and a willing-to-please attitude. They work really hard and they love "playing" with our guests. We think our staff is the best!

In Memory of Debra S. O'Donnell

April 2, 1961 - October 30, 2010

As for me my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of the death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. - 2 Timothy 4:6-8
